Skin check 4 min Doctor-reviewed

Monthly skin self-check — step by step

A systematic at-home skin-check routine. Which zones, how to record changes, when to book a visit.

A monthly self-check takes 5 minutes and helps spot changes that would otherwise go unnoticed. Use a full-length mirror and good lighting.

Check sequence

  1. 1

    Face, neck

Use a hand mirror to also check behind ears and on the scalp.

  2. 2

    Arms, hands

Check both sides, between fingers, under nails.

  3. 3

    Chest, abdomen

Women — also under the breasts.

  4. 4

    Back

Use a second mirror or ask a household member.

  5. 5

    Legs

Thighs, knees, calves, feet — also between toes and under nails.

  6. 6

    Groin

    Check with a hand mirror.

Photo log

Photograph each suspicious area on your phone with the date. Compare after 1–3 months — this is the single most useful tool for tracking change.
